This volume, the fourth in a series which began in 1979, covers a greater variety of subjects than any previous single volume. The selection of contributions has been based on current topical interest; hence the tailor-making of polymers to develop specific properties, methods of improving compound processability and the use of rubbers in the oil industry are featured alongside a discussion of safety aspects.

The service life and performance of a rubber product are dependent on the rubber chosen, together with the types and quantities of compounding ingredients which are incorporated. Careful selection of the vulcanizing system, filler, plasticizer and protective agent may enable a rubber to give a satisfactory performance in conditions which ordinarily would be considered beyond its range. The design of a rubber product is another important factor which influences its behavior and affects its length of service.

The topics covered include plasticizers, processing aids, quality control of rubber processing, elastomers, nitrile rubbers, epoxy resins, safety aspects and adhesion of rubbers to tire cords.

The contributions in this volume are by the foremost authorities in their respective fields. This book will be of particular interest to all rubber and plastics technologists in the industry as well as academia, raw materials suppliers and research institutes and libraries.
