Developers sought for new hotel at JFK.

Qualified developers are being sought to build a first-class, 400-room hotel at John F. Kennedy International Airport, according to an announcement by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, operator of the airport.

The hotel, which would be developed under a lease agreement with the Port Authority, is part of a $1.8 billion redevelopment of the airport's central terminal area, now under way.

A Request for Qualifications (RFQ) is being advertised this week in several metropolitan-area newspapers. It seeks to identify qualified developers for the hotel, which will be built on a site in the central terminal area across from the International Arrivals Building, primarily to accommodate air travelers and other guests and visitors.

Among the hotel amenities being considered are a conference center, meeting rooms, and an international telecommunications and business service center.

The JFK redevelopment is designed to equip the airport to accommodate up to 45 million annual air passengers. The airport, one of the largest and busiest in the United States, handled an estimated 27.8 million domestic and international passengers in 1992.

The major elements of the JFK redevelopment include a new air traffic control tower, a redesigned on-airport roadway network, an airport utilities improvement program and an automated people-mover system linking the passenger terminals and a planned transit access system now being developed by the Port Authority. The transit access system would link the airport with the New York City subway system and the Long Island Rail Road.

Parties interested in receiving a copy of the RFQ should telephone Orville A. Romney, project manager, at (718) 244-3656.
