Deutsche Telekom Launches First Widescale Commercial Web-To-Call Center Service Using Vocaltec Surf&Call Solution.

HERZLIYA, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 2, 1999--

VocalTec Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: VOCL) today announced the largest deployment of VocalTec Surf&Call Center(TM) to date in the commercial premier of Deutsche Telekom's freecall Online(TM), believed to be the most extensive Web-to-call center service in the world. Based on VocalTec's Ensemble Architecture(TM), Surf&Call Center allows carriers, service providers and call centers to enhance e-commerce services using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Surf&Call Center-enabled services can connect callers from Web sites to customer service agents for toll free assistance, joint surfing of Web pages and completion of online forms.

Deutsche Telekom introduced the commercial availability of freecall Online earlier today. The service allows consumers to talk directly from a corporate Web site to company representatives. This extends Deutsche Telekom's existing line of toll free 800 services, enabling companies to receive 800 calls originating from both traditional telephones and the Web. Two businesses also announced today that freecall Online's service is integrated into their e-commerce Web sites.

"freecall Online allows us to communicate more effectively with our online customers," said Marion Wollinsky, coordinator from ProSieben Club & Shop GmbH, a subsidiary of a popular internationally broadcast German TV station which has launched an e-commerce initiative using freecall Online at www.ProSieben-Club.de. "freecall Online allows us to immediately address our customers needs. We are amazed by the sound quality of the calls and are pleased the software client is easy for our Web-based customers to use. freecall Online is an important business tool to meet the needs of today's increasingly online consumer base."

Based on the VocalTec Ensemble Architecture, an open, scalable IP telephony architecture, Surf&Call Center uses the same standards-based IP telephony network infrastructure that carriers need to target different audiences with services such as phone-to-phone, fax-to-fax, PC-to-phone and Internet Phone Call Waiting(TM). Surf&Call solutions include a lightweight Surf&Call plug-in VoIP client. The small size (approximately 800KB for quick downloading) and superior voice transmission of the plug-in makes talking and jointly working on forms a practical solution over the open Internet. The Surf&Call plug-in client incorporates the recently announced VocalTec Ensemble Sound(TM) to provide greatly enhanced voice quality.

A Surf&Call software developers kit (SDK) is also available that can be customized to connect the Surf&Call Center solution with an automatic call distributor and private branch exchange to leverage existing call center investments. The SDK also allows system integrators to customize Web pages and agent desktops to support Surf&Call Center's voice and joint data collaboration capabilities.

"The Internet is becoming an important sales channel for more and more companies. The telephone and the Internet are becoming key tools in gaining and retaining customers. To date, the telephone and the Internet have mostly been used separately. Deutsche Telekom's freecall Online now changes that situation fundamentally," said Karlheinz Jost, Head of the Group Business Area Special Value-Added Services, Deutsche Telekom.

"Deutsche Telekom is leading the carrier market into a new era in which competition is based not only on low cost calling plans but on the bundling of traditional and enhanced communications services," said Dr. Elon Ganor, chairman of the board at VocalTec Communications. "We are committed to providing the end-to-end solutions that will enable carriers to respond quickly to new market needs and cost-effectively roll out services using the same IP telephony infrastructure."
