Detectives hunt sex assault man.

AN E-FIT picture has been released by detectives trying to track down a man after a serious sexual assault in the early hours of New Years Day in Wirral. The victim was a 27-year-old woman who had approached what she believed was a row of taxis in Conway Street, Birkenhead at 5am.

She got into a dark coloured Mondeo car and asked if it was a taxi. The driver said it was and she asked him to take her to her home address.

But she was then driven to an unknown location and sexually assaulted. Detective Inspector Dave Grisenthwaite said: "I would appeal for anyone with information or who recognises the e-fit to contact the investigation team.

"I would also ask the public to be vigilant when they are getting into taxis to ensure they have an licensed taxi plate."

The man is described as Asian, 25 to 30 years old, approximately 5ft 8in tall, and of muscular build. He had a local accent.

If anybody recognises him or has any information, ring Birkenhead CID on 0151 777 5423 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
