Caribbean Cruise Lines Caribbean Cruise Line Scam Watch Highlights Spring Break Travel Safety Needs. According to Caribbean Cruise Line scam prevention is one of its highest priorities as a vacation package provider. As many Americans embrace travel plans for annual spring breaks, Caribbean Cruise Line encourages tourists to use cause -- especially when traveling abroad. In a recent press statement, the company comments, "Through the Caribbean Cruise Line Scam Watch program, we hope to decrease the amount of scams travelers face so that they can enjoy their time away with confidence and in an affordable manner." However, as a recent article from U.S. News and World Report indicates, many of those embracing the spring break travel season, are also looking for ways to enjoy vacation time without going over budget. It reveals, "Spring break is around the corner, and if you're not careful, costs can easily turn a fun family vacation into a financial catastrophe. It's understandable if you're considering skipping this year's vacation, but if you're willing to do some research and get a little creative, you can find that there are plenty of ways to enjoy [spring] break with your kids without crushing your checking account." The article continues by offering an array of tips for those trying to plan spring break on a budget, one of which Caribbean Cruise Line raises caution about. The article suggests, "Consider daily deal websites. Investigate sites like LivingSocial and Groupon for vacation packages. Both offer significant discounts for travel options, and if you're planning a trip to a destination city, try signing up for email updates for that zip code so you can get deals and discounts on local food and entertainment options to use on your vacation." While the company encourages -- and provides -- affordable travel deals, Caribbean Cruise Line believes that these kind of websites can prey on unsuspecting scam victims. As such, the company explains in its press statement, "Based on the research of Caribbean Cruise Line Scam Watch, we have found that many travelers are scammed out of their money opting for 'daily deals' from illegitimate vacation providers, before the trip even takes place. While many sites -- like those mentioned in the article -- are genuine, it is important for all consumers to use caution to make sure the deal they are paying for is the one they really get." In addition to looking at online travel deals with a closer eye, Caribbean Cruise Line notes that those who are traveling abroad should learn basic ways to avoid scam artists. In its press statement, the company concludes, "For Caribbean Cruise Line scam prevention is the utmost importance from planning travel to enjoying travel; as a general tip we encourage all tourists to travel in numbers, stay free of distractions in public places and keep valuables close and secure at all times." JetBlue Airways JetBlue launches program to compost food waste. JetBlue Airways announced plans to compost nearly 300 pounds of food waste per day from restaurants at its terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. The carrier is partnering with Air Ventures and Royal Waste Services. The compost from the leftover food will be turned into fertilizer and soil for farms. JetBlue Airways JetBlue To Launch Composting Program At JFK's Terminal 5. JetBlue Airways (JBLU), New York's Hometown Airline*, today announced a partnership with Air Ventures and Royal Waste Services to compost leftovers from select restaurants in Terminal 5 (T5) at John F. Kennedy International Airport. Air Ventures, the franchisee that owns and operates the Jamba Juice and Dunkin Donuts restaurants in T5 and Royal Waste Services have committed to work with the airline to separate and haul nearly 300 pounds of food waste each day for composting. Preserving the environment and creating a healthier planet is a core pillar of JetBlue's sustainability philosophy. Compost is good for the environment, reduces the amount of solid waste that goes into landfills, redirects it to become a useful product and decreases the production of greenhouse gases such as methane. "We have a greater responsibility to the community than just transporting people from point A to point B," said Robin Hayes, chief commercial officer, JetBlue Airways. "As a corporate citizen and leader in our industry, we seek opportunities to recycle, reduce and restore. We offset emissions from all crewmember business travel, we fund and plant trees in areas affected by deforestation, and now, we're introducing a composting program at our home base of operations at New York's JFK airport. JetBlue's 15,000 crewmembers power our efforts every day to be the airline of choice among the communities we serve, and together, we aim to improve our communities' environment, too." This collaboration is JetBlue's most recent sustainability effort. Rather than tossing food into the trash, Air Ventures will throw compostable food scraps into bins which Royal Waste Services will then transport to a composting facility to turn it into fertilizer and nutrient rich soil for local farms including McEnroe Organic Farm in upstate New York. JetBlue plans to extend this partnership to other vendors in JFK's T5, as well as other airports throughout its network. "We know that reducing the landfill footprint is the right business and social choice," said Stephen Baldi, operating partner, Air Ventures. "Our dedicated managers and team members who see the waste on a daily basis want to do this and help make the program happen." "Composting is a no-brainer," said Joe Morra, general manager, Royal Waste Services. "As a company, we can reduce costs. As corporate citizens, we can keep good materials out of landfill." At JetBlue, preserving the environment is a top priority. The airline is creating a healthier planet through a variety of efforts. JetBlue recently accepted Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Carbon Challenge to reduce carbon gas emissions in New York City. JetBlue also took an environmentally-friendly approach during the construction of its new corporate support center in Long Island City, adding to the building's recognition by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) as having achieved Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design for Existing Buildings (LEED EB) Silver certification. Since 2008, JetBlue has partnered with, a nonprofit organization that allows customers to offset carbon dioxide emissions generated by their individual air travel. The airline also offsets all crewmember business travel. Carbon offsets balance out carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from a flight by supporting projects that reduce CO2 elsewhere. The airline offsets CO2 emissions through which manages a variety of sustainable initiatives including renewable energy and methane projects; energy efficiency and carbon credits and reforestation. Additionally, over the past six years through its One Thing That's Green, JetBlue has planted 1,333 trees and cleaned up nearly three tons of trash throughout New York City in an effort to improve air quality. Muscat airport Muscat airport in Oman crippled by strike . Oman is now also target of strikes. The ground handling staff at the Muscat airport in Oman have gone on strike since Friday night slowing down operations at the airport. The workers are demanding better working conditions, fewer working hours and better wages. This is second time this year the workers have resorted to a strike. OI could not deposit visas on Saturday morning for our business associate to come from India,O Biju Jacob, an employee of Abdul Fattah Noor Company LLC, told Gulf News. Article continues below He said that when he went to the airport to deposit the visa for passengers arriving later tonight, there was no one at the Ovisa depositO counter. Under the system, once a visa is deposited at the airport counter, the concerned airline is given a message to let a passenger board a flight. OWe had to send the visa by courier to our business associates from India and they had to postpone the visit till they get visas in hand to board a flight from India,O said the senior employee of the firm that imports fruits, vegetables, frozen foodstuff and eggs into Oman. OWith the airport situation since Friday night, we had to ask our employees to work double shifts to cope up with the work overload,O Riyaz Kuttery, General Manager of Jet Airways, told Gulf News. He, however, added that all three Jet Airways flight left Muscat on time. OTwo left last night and one this morning,O he added. Meanwhile, Oman Air issued a statement confirming that a small number of staff has gone on strike at the Muscat International Airport. OIt is disappointed to learn that an unofficial strike has been called by a small number of staff at Muscat International Airport,O according to the statement issued by the airlineOs Corporate Communication to Gulf News. ONo advance notice of the strike was given as required by the Omani labour law and the national regulations governing industrial action appear not to have been observed,O the statement said. OOman AirOs formal complaints and grievance procedures remain available to any member of staff who wishes to raise issues of concern.O The statement further clarified that Oman Air had positioned additional staff to minimize the impact on customers and have managed a 77 per cent on time performance of all their flights between 1am and 2.30pm on Saturday.
