Designing for the times.
Eighth International European Academy of Design Conference 31 March-3 April Gray's School of Art at the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen
The title of the conference is 'Design Connexity'. The term 'connexity' (Mulgan, 1998) reflects the moral challenges raised by the increasing connectedness between the social, economic and environmental issues resulting from increasing globalisation.
This provides the title for the conference and the backdrop for its themes, which seek to explore the implications of globalisation for design research and practice.
Internationally recognised keynote speakers include: Julian Bleecker, from Nokia Design, Los Angeles; Klaus Krippendorff, University of Pennsylvania; Toby Scott, Centre for Design Innovation, Ireland; Josephine Green, Philips Design, The Netherlands; and Fiona Raby, of Dunne & Raby Design Consultants. In addition to this, over 150 refereed papers have already been submitted and the programme allows for workshops, an exhibition and poster presentations.
The conference is chaired by Professor Julian Malins from Gray's School of Art.
Early registration offers the reduced rate of 360 [pounds sterling] and concessionary rates are available to staff by emailing ead@ meetingmakers.co.uk. www.designconnexity.org
