Designation ceremonies scheduled.

The Last Green Valley and the Willimantic River Alliance will host ribbon-cutting ceremonies Sept. 14 to celebrate National Recreation Trail designations for the Quinebaug River and Willimantic River water trails.

The Quinebaug River Water Trail event will take place at 9:30 a.m. at 437 Killingly Road, Pomfret, Conn. The Willimantic River Water Trail ribbon-cutting will begin at 11 a.m. at the River Park Canoe Launch on Plains Road, Mansfield, Conn.

A reception and lunch buffet will follow at noon at the Mansfield Firehouse, 879 Stafford Road, Mansfield, Conn. Featured speakers will be John Monroe of the National Park Service and Laurie Giannotti of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Registration deadline is Sept. 7.
