Desalination technology; health and environmental impacts.

Desalination technology; health and environmental impacts.

Ed. by Joseph Cotruvo et al.

CRC Press

187 pages

Written as an overview for existing or proposed desalinization plants, and as a precursor for later official publications on the subject, this text is a comprehensive study of the desalinization industry, including health and environmental impact assessments. The editors, Cotruvo et al, are various experts in technological aspects of the field including microbiology, immunology, toxicology, and environmental impacts. The need for drinking water is greater every day as the human population explodes. This, coupled with new technologies and decreased costs has resulted in a proliferation of desalinization facilities. Accordingly, a work such as this one which looks closely at those technologies and their impacts on health and the environment, as well as potential regulation of said technologies, is an important contribution.
