Deputy PM Atalay meets rectors in TRNC.

March 30 2012 (TUR) -- Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Besir Atalay on Friday met with the rectors of universities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in Lefkosa. Turkey's Ambassador in Lefkosa Halil Ibrahim Akca and the TRNC Minister of National Education, Youth and Sports Kemal Durust attended Atalay's meeting with the rectors. Speaking to reporters at the end of the meeting, Atalay said that the higher education sector had a crucial place in the new economic program to be implemented in the TRNC as of 2013. We want the economic program to be the achievement of the Turkish Cypriot administration. We do hope that the university sector in the TRNC reaches the status it deserves, Atalay stressed. TRNC minister Durust, said that they had a chance to discuss higher education in all details. Our rectors conveyed their private and general problems, the meeting was very beneficial, Durust underlined. Besir Atalay along with the Turkish Minister of Forestry and Water Works Veysel Eroglu are in the TRNC on Friday to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for Gecitkoy Dam, where water to be carried from Turkey to the TRNC would be impounded.
