Depleted Nejmeh suffer second AFC defeat.

Summary: Injury-ravaged Nejmeh encountered yet another setback in the space of five days as the defending Lebanese Premier League champions were beaten 1-0 by Al-Jaish for their second successive loss in the AFC Cup Wednesday.

BEIRUT: Injury-ravaged Nejmeh encountered yet another setback in the space of five days as the defending Lebanese Premier League champions were beaten 1-0 by Al-Jaish for their second successive loss in the AFC Cup Wednesday.

After being held 1-1 by Tadamon Sour in domestic action Friday, Theo Bucker's men were again off color against the inaugural AFC Cup champions, falling to Abdulatef Salkeni's late strike at the Salam Zgharta Stadium.

Bucker was without the services of talisman Khaled Takaji along with a host of other first-team regulars and the German manager's side toiled for much of the afternoon against their Syrian opponents.

The contest was a much tighter affair than their 4-1 humbling at the hands of regional powerhouses Al-Kuwait a fortnight ago, though Nejmeh were again lacking in creativity in the final third.

Their fate was sealed with three minutes to go, as Salkeni latched onto Hussam Bawadekji's drilled pass to steer home at the near post.

The loss leaves Nejmeh rooted to the foot of Group D, with next week's clash with Bahraini outfit Al-Riffa now a must-win for the eight-time Lebanese champions.

Nejmeh's defeat concludes a dismal two days for Lebanese football after Salam Zgharta were ousted 2-0 by Al-Wahda in Group A.
