Dens boss Baz picks up Sticks.

DUNDEE are set to sign Newcastle reserve keeper Alex Baird.

The 18-year-old Australian has agreed a deal to take him to Dens Park as back-up to No.1 Rab Douglas for the new season.

The keeper, whose nicknamed is Sticks due to his tall frame, moved to England in 2010 to chase his dream of top-flight football at St James' Park.

Now Baird is relishing the prospect of joining Barry Smith's First Division side who have already this summer signed strikers John Baird and Carl Finnigan as well as retaining the core of last season's squad in their quest to land the title.

Baird said: "I'm buzzing at the prospect. I can't wait for next season to get started.

"Dundee are a great club with a top manager so I'm excited about it all."
