Denise has changed my life; Dancer tutor up for award.

Byline: By ANGELA RAINEY

EVERY week more than 100 Teesside women enjoy a taste of Egypt thanks to Denise Caster.

The bellydancing coach is so valued by her students that they have nominated her for the Best Teacher in the Evening Gazette's Community Champion Awards.

Mother-of-two Denise, 43, from Cargo Fleet Lane, took up exercise in 1997 to get fit but now she passes on her expertise to help others lose wait and tone up. After three years of training Denise is qualified to teach belly dancing, boxercise, aqua-aerobics, pilates, aerobics, circuits and weight-training.

She teaches more than 18 hours a week but her proteges say the main reason for her big following is because her classes are fun and full of laughter.

Students also say that Denise is always willing to help everyone reach their full fitness potential.

Jenny Smith, from Saltburn, has been attending Denise's classes for eight years and enjoys bellydancing at JJB, Middlesbrough and at the Wilson Institute, Long Newton, every Sunday.

"With Denise fitness is fun," said Jenny. "She works you hard without you realising it and she makes you want to come back.

"It doesn't matter which level you start at, what you look like or what state you are in, Denise motivates people and she changes people's life.

"She has transformed my life. When I first met Denise I was member of a gym but I enjoyed her classes so much that I paid to go to them outside of the gym - that's how good she is."

Jenny adds that when she goes on holiday Denise devises a personal exercise plan for free to keep her in shape.

She adds: "Denise has been where we have been, she was once overweight so she knows what it's like and that's what makes a good instructor - someone who knows how you feel and uses that to motivate you."

Connie Wright, also attends the Sunday classes, she said: "I think Denise is dedicated to her job. "She is very, very friendly and very patient. She goes through all the moves with you."

Denise was shocked but pleased to hear that she had been nominated.

She said: "I am gobsmacked. I don't know what to say. It's lovely to think that people in my class nominated me.

They are all excellent and it's a lovely to know that they think of me like that."
