Dementia tragedy fear for Corrie Rita; SQUARE EYES; Thinking outside the box with Nicola Methven & Mark Jefferies.
Byline: Nicola Methven, Mark Jefferies
CORRIE favourite Rita Sullivan could be set for a heartbreaking dementia plotline.
Monday night's episodes showed Rita, played by Barbara Knox, forgetting she had bought a Little Miss Trouble mug for Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell).
Next week, viewers will see her struggle to remember what she ate for breakfast that morning. But her friends fail to notice anything is wrong.
And Square Eyes can reveal the storyline will continue for weeks, with pal Gemma fearing she has Alzheimer's disease and Rita heading to hospital for tests.
A source said: "Fans are right to be worried as this is just the beginning of a big story for Rita.
"Gemma becomes worried and finds notes Rita has written to herself. Chiefs are keeping exactly what happens secret but Rita seeks medical help and it is clear things are not right."
Fans of the soap are already panicking about what may be in store, knowing that her forgetfulness would not be included without reason. One tweeted: "Please don't tell me Rita is going to get Alzheimer's. I don't think I could handle it will be worse than Hayley!"
