Demand of Rice Bran Oil in the Food and Cosmetics Industry to Exhibit Strong Growth.

Noida, India, August 29, 2015 --( Rice bran oil is an edible vegetable oil that is extracted from the outer brown layer of rice known as rice bran containing 15-20% oil by weight. It is considered as one of the healthiest oils as the ratios of saturated, mono-saturated and poly-unsaturated fats in this oil are closest to the ideal ratios recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA) and WHO. Its three major constituents- Gamma-oryzanol, tocotrienols and tocopherols have potential significance in human health and diet. These high nutraceutical value components act as powerful natural antioxidants and have multiple health benefits like- cholesterol lowering, improving nervous system, reducing cancer risk, removing gastro intestinal disorders and increasing immunity. Oryzanol with antioxidant properties retards oil degradation at elevated temperatures and results in its extended fry-life and storage time of fried foods. Its high viscosity and less absorption during cooking leaves food without any lingering aftertaste. In addition to these properties, rice bran oil offers delicate flavors, excellent texture profiles while cooking and can also be blended with other less stable oils to improve their performance.

Rice bran oil is gaining popularity not only in food and nutritional supplements, but also as a specialty ingredient in cosmetics and personal care products. Various studies have shown that rice bran oil has beneficial properties for skin and hair. For instance, rice bran oil can be beneficial to treat itching of skin and used as an anti-dandruff agent in the production of cosmetics. Similarly, vitamin E present in it reduces the tissue oxidation of skin resulting in slow ageing of the skin and making it look more healthy and beautiful. Likewise, oryzanol present in it is very effective in absorbing ultraviolet light and has been incorporated in a number of sunscreen formulations. Some other uses of rice bran oil in the cosmetics industry include- nail polishes, lipsticks and hair conditioners.
