Defense Officials Tour Two PA Foundries.
In October, the Defense Supply Center Philadelphia (DSCP) and Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) benchmarked "best in class" practices at Empire Steel (Atchison Casting), Reading, Pennsylvania, and Delvest, Westchester, Pennsylvania, asSue Bonanno, Sandra Nelson and Bohdan Hasiuk, DSCP, accompanied by Dan Gearing, DLA, and Jon Tirpak, American Metalcasting Consortium (AMC), toured the foundries.While at Empire Steel, which specializes in high-performance sand castings, the representatives gained insight into casting design and manufacturing processes from order placement to fulfillment, according to AMC. Empire Steel illustrated processes with cast bollards that circle the Capitol and White House as a security addition.
At Delvest, which casts components for the federal and commercial sectors, the representatives learned about the investment casting process.
These tours help DSCP and DLA personnel gain a greater knowledge of the Dept. of Defense supply chains and opportunities to improve them, according to AMC.
