Defamation case against Imran adjourned till Feb 14.

ISLAMABAD -- A district and session judge on Thursday adjourned the hearing of defamation case filed by former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary against Pakistan TehreekeInsaf Chairman Imran Khan till February 14.

The exCJ had filed a Rs 20 billion defamation lawsuit against Khan for allegedly maligning the Supreme Court and accusing him of rigging in May 11, 2013 general elections.

Former law minister and Senator Dr Babar Awan submitted his license in order to represent Pakistan TehreekeInsaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan in defamation suit filed by former Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry.

District and sessions Judge Nazir Ahmad heard the case proceedings when Iftikhar Chaudhry's lawyer, Sheikh Ahsan, objected stating that former CJ suspended Awan's practice license so he might hold a grudge against the plaintiff.

Babar Awan stated that the case will bring a lot of details to light adding that Imran Khan had to take it to the streets to protest against the blatant injustice. Both the lawyers also exchanged verbal blows during the argument.

Judge Nazir Ahmad remarked that court will pass the judgment without any pressure.

Court ordered Imran Khan to submit response pertaining to the defamation suit in the next hearing and directed Iftikhar Chaudry's lawyer to provide rationale of the objections pointed at Babar Awan.

The court directed Imran Khan's counsel to submit his reply till February 14.
