Planning & Cutting

Michele designed this throw using her
Calypso collection for Northcott. Her
clever design turns the typical quilt
pattern inside out, with long strips
used in the quilt center and Friendship
Star Blocks composing pieced
outer borders.

In the quilt center, what look like small
squares pieced together to create
long strips are actually a printed stripe.
Meanwhile, Michele used her ombre
fabric to its best advantage by cutting
two 5 1/2" x width of fabric strips in half
and stitching them back together at
their outside edges to create a sense
of alternating flow.

Michele also used two different lime/
aqua prints in the Friendship Star
Blocks and paired each one consistently
with a different fabric for a more
varied, yet still uniform, look.

Use an accurate 1/4" seam allowance
throughout to ensure all elements of
the quilt fit together well.
