Dedication of St. Joseph's Boathouse, First New One on the Schuylkill in 98 Years, Set for June 15.

PHILADELPHIA -- Key figures in the movement that led to the building of the first boathouse on the banks of the Schuylkill in nearly a century will share the limelight at dedication ceremonies with an anticipated audience of hundreds of supporters from St. Joseph's Preparatory School and St. Joseph's University. They will share in the official opening of the Robert M. Gillin, Jr., Boathouse, home of the J. Vincent Taggart, S.J., Rowing Center, that will be shared by both institutions.

 Elizabeth Challenge Cup on the 2000 Royal Henley Regatta.

A large turnout is expected of the more than 950 SJP families who pledged more than $2 million in support of the project.

The St. Joseph's Boathouse is a two-story structure with an attractive stone facade. The 8,860-sq.-ft. first floor has four bays, a 270-sq.-ft. veranda with a beautiful view of the river. The 6,680-sq.-ft. second floor has two common areas for meetings and out-of-water instruction. It also features large windows, an elevator, bathroom facilities and a 750-sq.-ft. deck.
