The year 2013 was an eventful year for the Philippines. It saw the country embroiled in some of the most hard-hitting calamities and controversies, both political and social. Taking the cue from current events, the Mapua Interior Design Class of 2013 presents "Design + Agenda: Interior Design Takes to the Headlines" at the SM Interior Zone on January 7.

A look back to the biggest newsmakers in 2013, the exhibit explores issues ranging from corruption, nepotism and women's rights became the conceptual themes that provided inspiration to the various design vignettes. Iris Taguinod's "The Womb" reflects the tension between factions over the much talked about Reproductive Health Bill. The vignette focuses on aspects of womanhood, family, the State and Church in a contemporary residential setting. In "Derivation of Supremacy", Patrick Roy Javier sheds light on the process and the dynamics of political dynasties in the Philippines through a master bedroom vignette; while the infamous Pork Barrel or Priority Development Assistance Fund Scam is central to Renee Andrea Chua's "Pagtitipon Ukol kay P" as she chronicles through her design the events that unraveled the wide-spread corruption in the government.

Each vignette applies thorough research, looking at all the points of the issues and taking into account the blistering debates over these controversies. In essence, each of these vignettes are stories themselves, providing a venue for discourse, though in no way are meant to be an interpretation of any specific political leaning. The students however, invite the public to an alternative outlook to these causes, as they provide a turnaround from the negative to a positive in these creative translations that evoke diverse moods and styles.

Mounted in cooperation with official partners, SM Interior Zone, Matimco Inc, Bluprint Magazine, Manila Bulletin and ANC Channel together with Mariwasa Siam Ceramic Inc, Insignia Art Connoisseurs Corp, Boysen Paint, DDG Magazine, Design Folder, Wilcon Depot. The exhibit is open to the public and will run until February 5.
