Deck response; VIEWPOINTS.

IN RESPONSE to Dave Holdham (Viewpoints, July 3), I was on HMS Eagle from 1957 to 1959 and she did not have an angled deck.

The angled deck was fitted when she went for a two-anda-half-year refit between 1959 and 1962. I have a lot of photographs and the commission book, which clearly shows her without an angled deck. She was also eight feet longer than the Ark Royal. Steve Jones is correct that the Ark had an angled deck before the Eagle.
