Dec. 26 is deadline for taxing districts to file tax levy documents.

Byline: Kane County Clerks Office

Kane County Clerk John A. Cunningham would like to remind local governments and other taxing districts in Kane County that the last Tuesday in December (Dec. 26, 2017) is the statutory deadline for the filing of tax levy certificates and other documents related to the levying of taxes.

Taxing districts must file a Levy Ordinance/Resolution, a Tax Levy Certificate, a Truth in Taxation Certificate, and a Levy Summary sheet with the Kane County Clerks Office on or before Dec. 26.

Non-ad valorem districts must file original copies of a Levy Ordinance/Resolution and a Tax Levy Certificate with the County Clerks Office and must also send an electronic list of parcel numbers with the amounts to be charged to ericsonsusan@co.kane.il.us at the County Clerks Office on or before Dec. 26.

Drainage districts must file two items with County Clerks Office on or before Dec. 26: A copy of the original Tax Levy Certificate, which was previously filed with the Circuit Court Clerk, and an electronic file of parcels with the amounts to be charged to ericsonsusan@co.kane.il.us at the County Clerks Office.

In addition, all taxing districts must file their budgets, including a Budget Certificate and an Estimated Revenue Certificate within 30 days of passage. The Treasurers Report for most districts must also be filed with the Clerks Office.

Copies of forms are available kanecountyclerk.org/Tax/forms.aspx. For more information, visit the Clerks Tax Extension site at kanecountyclerk.org/Tax/tax.aspx or contact the tax extension department at (630) 232-5964.

The Kane County Clerks Office handles several different aspects regarding property taxes, including property tax extension for local governments; past tax searches; delinquent tax redemption; and annexations, disconnections, dissolutions and organization of taxing districts. The system implemented by the Clerks Office to calculate tax extensions has saved taxpayer dollars by reducing the time to process these functions and increase efficiency.
