Death toll tops 33 as govet forces pound towns, neighborhoods in Syria.

| KUWAIT, May 1 (KUNA) -- The death toll of those killed Tuesday at the hand of the Syrian regime increased to 33, including a massacre in Idlib that took the lives of 18 people, announced the Local Coordination Committees (LCC) in Syria.

Syrian government forces have carried out today brutal operations in such towns and areas as Homs, Hama, Deraa, Qamishil, and Riqa, killing at least 15 people there, said LCC.

Concomitant with these operations were public demonstrations against the government, wide scale looting of shops and businesses, said LCC.

Moreover, in the township of Derkoush in the area of Edlib, an officer and six soldiers from the Syrian army left it and joined the Free Syrian army. Furthermore, heavy explosions were heard in the country side near the Easter Ghota region where large congregatios of government troops had gathered. (end) am.ajs KUNA 011924 May 12NNNN
