Death rate figures must be [...]; LETTERS.

Death rate figures must be addressed ANN Clwyd, Royal College of Surgeons and England's chief medical officer have all raised serious concerns about the above average death rates in the Welsh NHS.

Gareth Thomas, the Labour candidate for Clwyd West, predictably jumped to defend the Welsh Labour Government record on health, so why are death rates here higher than in England, Scotland and Ireland? Why does the Labour government want to change the way deaths are to be recorded? Have the Labour party learned nothing from the Mid Staffs NHS scandal? This is such a serious matter that there needs to be an independent inquiry into standards of care. The doctors and nurses, often short-staffed, do a great job despite the Welsh Government's disastrous handling of our health service.

The people of Wales deserve better than this: Mark Drakeford, Carwyn Jones, Andy Burnham and Ed Miliband, hang your heads in shame.

Mr P Hardy, Denbigh.
