Death of sire Precocious; BLOODSTOCK DESK.

PRECOCIOUS, who was unbeaten as a two-year-old for Henry Cecil, was put down at Bloomsbury Stud on Friday. He was 25.

Precocious ran up a string of five victories that included the Norfolk, National, Molecomb and Gimcrack Stakes.

He stood at New England Stud, Newmarket, and also in Sweden. His best runner in Britain was high-class sprinter Elbio, whose five Group-race victories included the 1993 King's Stand Stakes.

The eighth of 15 foals out of Bloomsbury Stud's outstanding broodmare Mrs Moss, Precocious was a half-brother to Japan Cup winner Jupiter Island and Queen Mary Stakes winner Pushy.
