Dear Rachael: Health Check: Am I stuck with ugly cold sore?

Q A MONTH ago, I had a cold sore for the first time. It cleared up after a while but my friend said it will come back as you can never get rid of the virus. Is he right?

Toni

A SADLY, once you've had a cold sore the virus lies dormant and can return if you're under stress or your immune system is low.

But if you use an anti-viral cream like Zovirax as soon as you feel a tingling on your lip it should stop it flaring up.Cramping my style...

Q MOST weekends when I've been on a night out with my friends I wake up with terrible cramp in my legs. My mum says it's because I drink too much but she would say that, wouldn't she?Amy

A I'M afraid your mum is probably right. Cramps are caused by dehydration and a lack of salt in your blood - a consequence of too much alcohol.

You can buy salt tablets from your chemist but should drink LOTS of water while you're out and before you go to bed. If the cramps don't improve, see your GP.Worried I'm running out

Q I'M in my late 50s and no longer produce as much semen as I did. Could I have a problem and can I do anything?

David

A THE amount of semen that men produce declines with age - so you probably don't have a problem.

Some men have a condition called retrograde ejaculation where the semen goes back into the bladder.

Sexual abstinence for 72 hours can boost output by 10 per cent - that's not much when your average amount is less than a teaspoonful! If you're still worried, ask your doctor.
