Dear Jo: Readers' Letters: pounds 25 Letter Of Day.

THE Mirror reported that Britain is the saddest place in Europe (Aug 16).

Well I've just returned from the Continent having lived there for 18 years. And Britain's a wonderful place to be.

Yes, we may be poorer, our health service worse and many of us are not as law-abiding as our European counterparts.

But the British are compassionate, considerate and can laugh in the face of adversity.

I for one would rather be in sad old Britain than anywhere else in the world.
