Dean & DeLuca open espresso bar

Dean & DeLuca, the gourmet specialty food retailer, will open a new espresso bar at 75 University Place in The Albert, a residential building on the corner of 11th Street.

Rockrose Development Corporation, which developed and converted the cooperative apartment building, made the announcement.

Beginning this winter, Dean & DeLuca will occupy 2,200 square feet-in what was once the grand, elegant dining room of the former Hotel Albert. The sun-drenched space, with 18-foot ceilings, mosaic tile floors and ornate scroll-work, has retained much of the original detailing from its former incarnation.

Dean & DeLuca, which sells gourmet food products throughout the U.S., has a main specialty foods store as well as two other espresso bars in Manhattan.

"We are extremely pleased to have a strong, reputable tenant such as Dean & DeLuca in the Albert, and feel it will serve the neighborhood well," said Patricia Dunphy, director of retail leasing for Rockrose.
