Deals worth QR 262mn signed at Milipol expo.

The Ministry of Interior has reached deals worth QR262mn with different companies during Milipol Qatar 2012, which concluded yesterday, the president of Milipol Qatar Brigadier Nasser bin Fahad al-Thani has said.

Addressing a press conference at the conclusion of the ninth edition of the international exhibition of internal state security, at Doha Exhibition Centre, Brigadier Nasser bin Fahad al-Thani said this year's deals registered an increase of QR100mn compared to the 2010 Milipol edition.

Yesterday, a deal worth QR122mn was reached with Nuctech, a Chinese company, to import two machines to inspect containers and trucks at Abu Samra border, Brigadier Saud Rashid al-Shafi, head of procurement section at Logistics Department announced.

The contract will be signed within two weeks, Brig. al-Shafi said.

The deal includes import of two machines to inspect containers and trucks, equipping the building and maintaining it, he said.

Also yesterday, the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) signed a contract worth 15mn euro with Renault, a French company, for the supply of 27 military vehicles for special operations and patrols.

Director of Legal Affairs Department at Lekhwiya Col. Ibrahim Khalil al-Muhannadi, said that Renault will supply 22 military vehicles for special operations and five vehicles for patrols.

Among the new contracts signed with foreign companies providing internal security solutions is French firm Safran Morpho. The QR5.66mn deal would see Morpho, a division under holding company Safran, delivering 60 units of MorphorapID, a hand-held device that does biometric personal identity verification.

Speaking to QNA, Ministry of Interior Criminal Evidences and Information Department Director (CEID) Colonel Nasser Abdullah al-Mahmoud said, "This device would empower officers to identify wanted criminals, suspects or illegal persons in Qatar through finger print verification. This portable device will be linked to the central database in the control room via 3G network."

Speaking about the new deal Safran Morpho Middle East sales and marketing director Walid Ghobrial said, "We are proud to be a key provider of biometric solutions to Qatar MoI since 1994. On Tuesday evening we announced our formal partnership with local company Itqan Holding to strengthen our presence in Qatar."

Regarding the functionality of the MorphorapID biometric device, Ghobrial said, "It has a camera, finger print scanner, contactless and contact card reader which can read documents like passports, a 2D barcode reader, GPS, 3G, Wireless, Bluetooth and large storage capacity."

This hand-held device is a mobile miniature police station. "It can serve all departments of the MoI like CEID, Traffic, Immigration and civil applications like enrollment for ID, passports and public services like facilitating good conduct certificates for individuals," Ghobrial said.

Addressing the press conference, Brigadier Nasser bin Fahad al-Thani Milipol Qatar 2012 was visited by 5,820 persons from 66 countries with an increase of 5.5% visitors, compared to Milipol Qatar 2010.

The area used for the expo this year reached to 5623sq.m, an increase of 24% compared to the previous edition, he said.

Michael Weatherseed, general manager of Milipol France, who also attended the press conference, said: "Milipol 2012 has exceeded our expectations from all sides, in terms of the number of exhibitors, visitors of different nationalities and contracts signed with many companies".

Milipol Qatar has become global event and a hub for the security solutions for the Middle Eastern countries that search for latest security products, he said.

The keenness of the world famous internal state security products manufacturing companies such as Thales, Motorola and other major companies in attending in this exhibition shows that the Milipol Qatar has become a global event.
