ValuSource, 1939 Grand Avenue, San Diego, CA 92109, (800) 825-8763, $590.

This software guides users through the entire business valuation and deal structuring process. Data is first inputted using a "deal data sheet." The program then "crunches" the numbers to produce a financial review, including key ratios and comparisons with industry averages. Afterward, a business appraisal is generated using 15 different pre-programmed appraisal methods, followed by a purchase analysis that allocates the purchase price to specific assets, including a noncompete covenant, employment contracts and asset-based financing. Users can enter both summary or detailed financial statements when inputting historical financial data. Adjustments can be made automatically together with pertinent footnotes. Statements of cash flows -- both simple and a GAAP statement of cash flow -- are also automatically calculated. For financial review and industry comparison, ValuSource has added the Robert Morris Associates (RMA) ratio format; preferred stock valuation; blended rate analysis; and a profit and loss account growth review. Five new valuation approaches have been added since the last version of the program. A simplified version of the program (called Value Express) allows those inexperienced at business valuation to value a business with full documentation and is available for $195. For system requirements or more information, interested accounting professionals are urged to call the above phone number.
