DeMattia Group Begins Construction on Michigan's First Anheuser-Busch Distribution Center.

PLYMOUTH, Mich. and HOWELL, Mich., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- DeMattia Group, one of Michigan's leading industrial design/build firms, has begun construction on Michigan's first Anheuser-Busch Distribution Center.

The 112,500-square-foot facility, in DeMattia's Trans West Industrial Center in Howell, is Anheuser-Busch's first distribution center east of the Mississippi and only the third nationwide. It will house a controlled- environment warehouse, a keg cooler and office space.

Anheuser-Busch, based in St. Louis, Mo., will use the warehouse to ship 12.5 million cases annually of Budweiser and other Anheuser-Busch products to wholesalers throughout Michigan. Shipments are expected to begin in June, 1999, according to Randy Fussell, Anheuser-Busch manager of distribution center logistics.

"The Michigan distribution center, which will provide an improved level of service and supply in an increasingly complex mix of brands and packages, is part of the logistics solution for Anheuser-Busch," he says. "We selected Trans West Industrial Center in Howell because of its proximity to major population areas, access to rail service and highways, and availability of suitable real estate. This facility will support the unique supply characteristics of our Michigan distributors."

Anheuser-Busch will lease the build-to-suit facility at 1199 Austin Court from DeMattia Group.

DeMattia Group, based in Plymouth, Mich., is a full-service real estate, construction and design firm, offering innovative solutions in site selection, land planning, design/build construction, architecture, engineering, construction management, real estate financing, interior design and property management. Its new Trans West Industrial Center is located on 223 rolling acres in a rapidly growing industrial hub between M-59 and I-96.

Anheuser-Busch recently increased its hold on the U.S. beer market by more than a percentage point to 46.7 percent. Besides the new Michigan facility, Anheuser-Busch has distribution centers in Portland, Ore., and Minneapolis, Minn. Progressive Distributions Systems of Melvindale, Mich., a third-party public warehouse operator, will run the new Michigan facility.
