Dazzling mistake; Letters..

I RECENTLY moved to an area that is frequented by lots of cyclists.

I have no problem with them but I do have an issue with the few who apply lights to the front of their bikes that are so bright they could be used as landing beacons at an airport - and insist on using them in daylight as well as the dark.

I have had several occasions while walking the dog or driving on roads close to where I live of being dazzled by an oncoming cyclist who is ignorant that their light is both inconsiderate to other road users and downright dangerous, as being dazzled in this way can cause a moment's blindness, enough to cause an accident.

Cycling UK say: "If your lights cause undue dazzle or discomfort to other road users then you are breaking the law and the police are within their rights to fine you."

Perhaps it is time all bikes had to have a registration plate or similar to ensure the few causing problems think twice.
