Daytrippers bring pounds 3bn.
The Great Britain Day Visits Survey, conducted by the tourism bodies of England, Wales and Scotland, found that 102 million day visits were made to Wales every year.
The research, which studied evidence about day trips since 2002-3, found day-trippers spent pounds 2.9bn in Wales - more than the pounds 1.8bn spent by people on longer stays.
The average expenditure per person per visit was calculated at approximately pounds 29.
Business Minister Edwina Hart said the sheer volume of visits and expenditure illustrated the importance of the day-visitor market .
