MARLBORO -- David Prescott Sleeper, 75, died Sunday, Feb. 22.
He was born on Sept. 19, 1939, in Gleasondale, the youngest child of Oscar and Miriam (Duley) Sleeper. He grew up in Stow and graduated from Hale High School, in 1957, where he played basketball, baseball and (in Hudson) football. In the 1960s, he earned his certification as electronics technician, petty officer third class in the U.S. Coast Guard and attended Northeastern University.
He married Yvonne (Petrosino) in 1961, with whom he had two daughters, raised Dalmatians and practiced real estate. Mr. Sleeper worked at Raytheon Corp. and, in 1973, he founded Ecology Controls, Inc. He also earned a U.S. patent for a sound-dampening enclosure for machinery.
He married Wanda (Poczatek), in 1971, and had two children, living in Northboro and Bolton, and was predeceased by her in 1981. Later in life, Mr. Sleeper lived in Dallas, Texas, after marrying Claudya (McDermott). He returned to Marlboro in 2008, becoming a member of the Golden Tones chorus of Wayland.
He is predeceased by his siblings, Oscar Jr., Edward, Donald and Ellen.
Mr. Sleeper leaves his four children, Lynn Orav and her husband, John, of Bedford, Staci Colby and her husband, William, of Westboro, Ashley Collins and her husband, Christopher, of Dallas, Texas, and Prescott Sleeper and his wife, Sara, of Eliot, Maine, as well as his nephew, Michael Karol of Roslindale; his stepchildren, Karen King Green and Russell and Mark King; eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 6, at Britton-Summers Funeral Home, 4 Church St., Westboro. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 7, at Church of the Nativity, 45 Howard St., Northboro.
