Dave Duffield of PeopleSoft named entrepreneur of the year.
WHO: Dave Duffield, President and CEO of PeopleSoft Inc.
WHAT: Mr. Duffield has been named Entrepreneur Of The Year in a program sponsored by Ernst & Young, Inc. Magazine, San Francisco Business Times, Sprint Business, Merrill Lynch, KCBS-AM and KGO-TV. The award was in the Software category.
Other finalists in the category included John Colligan of Macromedia Inc., Jerry Fiddler of Wind River Systems, Lawrence Garlick of Remedy Corp., and Reed Hastings of Pure Software Inc.
HOW: The Entrepreneur Of The Year seeks to honor those individuals who have braved the risks of starting a business, found success, and set the standards of business excellence for others to follow. The 34-finalists from 8 categories -- including Communications, Electronics, Manufacturing and Life Sciences -- were chosen from more than 100 entries by a distinguished panel of local judges. Recipients were honored at a ceremony at San Francisco's Westin St. Francis Hotel on June 23, 1995.
The Bay Area Program is one of more than 40 regional events sponsored by Ernst & Young, which started the awards in 1986 as a forum to recognize entrepreneurial spirit. Mr. Duffield is now eligible for the National Entrepreneur Of The Year award, chosen this fall in Palm Springs, with winners appearing in the December issue of Inc. Magazine.-0-
