Davao-Digos road completed: official.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of P103.7-million worth of road widening project from the city to Digos City.

Allan S. Borromeo, regional director of DPWH XI, said in a statement that the project was the establishment of additional two-lane 320-millimeter thick road along the 2.98-kilometer of Davao-Cotabato road from Davao City to junction Digos section.

Borromeo said there are also reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings, precast concrete curb and gutter, concrete barrier and metal guardrails. Drainage structures were established to prevent flood in the area.

The completion of the road, DPWH said in a statement, will 'provide a more comfortable travel experience to tourists and local travelers.'

'The completion of the project benefits a larger number of motorists including traders transporting products between Central and Southern Mindanao,' DPWH added, as the road links the city and Cotabato City.

Meanwhile, key infrastructure projects are in the pipeline that would be set up in the region. Data from the National Economic and Development Authority XI bared that among those include the Davao City by-pass road, Davao City coastal road and projects under roads leveraging linkages of industry and trade program.

Budget and Management Secretary Benjamin E. Diokno said the budget for the Davao City by-pass road, for instance, amounted to P19.8 billion. He said this was targeted to start this year and would be completed by 2022.

'The Davao City by-pass is expected to reduce travel time from one hour and 44 minutes via Pan Philippine highway and Diversion Road to 49 minutes via Davao by-pass road,' Diokno said.
