Darren signs for Star.

NEWCASTLE Blue Star have made their seventh summer signing as they prepare for a second season in the UniBond League Division One North.

Director of football Bob Morton has snapped up Darren Craddock, who has played with York City for the last two seasons.

The 23-year-old midfielder or defender turned out for Hartlepool at the Millennium Stadium in the play-offs before joining York

Morton said: "We have beaten off competition from a couple of UniBond League Premier Division Clubs, and I see Darren as another important addition to our squad."

The Kingston Park outfit have already lined up Paul Brayson, Steve Bowey, Richard Flynn and Jamie McClen from Gateshead, together with Stephen Young, who has scored more 200 goals in the Arngrove Northern League during the last six seasons.

Young's previous club was Morpeth Town, while Paul Stoneman, who now lives at Whitley Bay, has also joined Blue Star. He has previously been with Blackpool and Halifax.

"Steadily, we are building a very strong pool of players, and we are looking forward to a successful season with Dean Gordon and Mark Birch sharing the managerial role," added Morton.

Blue Star, who will visit Whitley Bay on July 12, have also lined up pre-season friendlies at Kingston Park with Hamilton Academicals on July 28 and a Newcastle United XI on August 6.
