Darling backs his successor.

An Edinburgh councillor will stand in ex-chancellor Alistair Darling's seat at the general election.

Ricky Henderson, who has represented the Pentland Hills ward in the capital since 2007, won Labour's nomination for Edinburgh South-West. Henderson, who has been a councillor for 16 years, said: "I am delighted to have been chosen to succeed Alistair.

"He will be a very hard act to follow but I am looking forward to the campaign."

Darling, who led the Better Together campaign in the independence referendum, revealed in November he would stand down as an MP.

He said: "Congratulations to Ricky on his selection. I'll do all I can to ensure he wins the seat for Labour."
