Danish prime minister asked to investigate possible conflicts with EU constitution draft.

NORDIC BUSINESS REPORT-29 May 2003-Danish prime minister asked to investigate possible conflicts with EU constitution draft(C)1994-2003 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The Danish prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen has been asked to start a legal investigation that would be able to highlight any conflicts between the Danish constitution and the draft for a constitution for the European Union.

Per Skaarup, of Dansk Folkeparti, has asked for the investigation to be launched. He has said that it is essential to find the possible conflicts, reported the Danish news service Ritzau.

One problem is reportedly that the Danish constitution sets the law-making power with the King and the parliament, while this would be overruled by the EU constitution and make the EU a direct law-making power in the country. According to Skaarup, this is something that the government cannot ignore.
