Dancers leaping for the weekend.

PERFORMERS gathered yesterday to launch the second half of the Leap Year of Dance.

It will begin with a two-day festival held at outdoor locations across the city centre this weekend.

The free events, organised by Merseyside Dance Initiative, will include Vox Pop, a specially commissioned piece by Lea Anderson performed in Marks & Spencer's store windows.

Rock a Hula, a mass hula-hooping event, will be taking place in Williamson Square, where there will also be bungee assisted performances by Wired Ariel Dance Company. Travelling dance pieces, including brand new work by Brisbane-based Bridget Fiske, will move through the city centre throughout the weekend.

Events this year include a jazz-style show by the Chicago-based Joel Hall Dancers and former Riverdance star Colin Dunne.
