Damascus keen on ties with Beirut - Assad adviser.

BEIRUT: Syrian President Bashar Assad's political and media advisor, Buthaina Shaaban, said in comments published on Tuesday that the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri had been used to damage Lebanese-Syrian ties. "Syria is very eager [to strengthen] this relationship," Shaaban said in an interview published by the Syrian daily al-Watan on Tuesday. Shaaban said that Hariri's assassination case had been "politically manipulated." Shaaban said she believed the new US administration is "yearning to open a new page between the US and the Arab world." - The Daily Star
