Daley's coach takes off pressure; OLYMPICS 2008.

TOM DALEY'S coach has moved to play down expectations of the teenager claiming a medal at the Beijing Olympics.

Daley, just 14, has found himself increasingly in the spotlight since he booked his place at the Games and then became European champion in the 10 metres platform in Eindhoven in March.

The Plymouth youngster has always insisted he is focusing on the 2012 Games in London with Beijing as a means of gaining experience and his coach Andy Banks has also talked down Daley's ambitions for next month.

Banks said: "We have a media stance that there are three goals.

The first is to come back happy and proud of his performance and I think that is key.

"The second is to learn as much as possible from the environment so you have the multi-sport event, different sports being involved, sitting alongside (Roger) Federer perhaps in the food hall and being a part of the biggest sporting show on earth. And the third is he's got to have some fun. So we have played down the whole medal prospect. At the end of the day, if everybody in the world dives as well as they can do including Tom then we won't be on the rostrum.

"As we saw at the Europeans some people can have a bad day, some people can have a good day.

"An Olympic final - if he gets into the final - is the biggest thing in the world and anything can happen as we saw in Athens where the Chinese fell off, the Russians hit the board and the Americans fell apart and the Greeks came in and won it.

"Never say never but it is not a goal for this event."
