BROOKINGS, S.D.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 4, 2001

Daktronics, Inc. (Nasdaq:DAKT) of Brookings, S.D., will provide an integrated video, scoring, information and advertising display system for the new Ford Field currently under construction in Detroit, Michigan. Ford Field is scheduled to open in August 2002 and will be the home of the Detroit Lions of the National Football League. The value of the Daktronics display system is approximately $11 million.

According to Dr. Al Kurtenbach, chairman and CEO of Daktronics, "We are pleased to have been chosen to provide this unique, integrated system for the Detroit Lions and Ford Field. Fans will definitely enjoy the high quality imagery our displays show. Our integrated systems approach will allow them to have access to more information so they can enjoy the game day experience even more."

Components of the integrated display system include two large ProStar(R) VideoPlus end zone displays, two ProAd(TM) digital advertising and information displays, two SunSpot(R) incandescent matrix displays, and delay of game clocks. Daktronics Venus(R) 7000, V-Link(R) video processors and other control equipment will allow the displays to operate together as an integrated system.

East and west end zone displays will each measure approximately 27 feet high by 150 feet wide. Positioned in the center of each end zone display will be a large ProStar(R) video screen measuring approximately 27 feet high by 96 feet wide, providing fans with incredible live and recorded video of game action. Each video display will be a matrix of red, green and blue LED (light emitting diode) pixels, 352 pixels high by 1,280 pixels wide on 23mm center-to-center spacing. With 12-bit digital processing, Daktronics Generation V ProStar(R) and ProAd(TM) displays have the capability to show 68 billion different shades of color using the three primary colors of light.

Two large ProAd(TM) displays will be installed on the upper level fascia inside the new facility. A total of more than 1,200 running feet of ProAd(TM) technology will entertain and inform fans at Lions games and other events. One display will measure more than three feet high by 513 feet wide, and the other three feet high by 687 feet wide. These displays will be 40 pixels high with pixels on 23mm center-to-center spacing.

ProAd(TM) technology is quickly becoming the standard for digital, full-color advertising and information displays in sports and entertainment facilities. ProAd(TM) displays provide flexibility for facilities, teams and advertisers who want to change the information presented quickly and easily. The technology can help generate advertising revenue for teams and enhance the game day experience for fans by providing additional information and entertainment.

A SunSpot(R) incandescent matrix display will be mounted on the east and west fascia at each end of the stadium. These two displays will each measure approximately four feet high by 65 feet wide, and will be used to display statistics, scores and other game in progress information. ProStar(R), ProAd(TM) and SunSpot(R) technologies provide excellent brightness and exceptional viewing angles for fans in sports and entertainment facilities around the world.
