Daily Post comment: The Poetry Lover.

IT takes one to know one,and the dark genius of poet RS Thomas has now been recognised by that wayward genius Ken Russell, the film director you either love or hate -which will either be great news or a cause for dismay by admirers of the late Gwynedd-based bard if Mr Russell does decide to make a film about him.

It is an intriguing prospect. Ken Russell, who has been visiting North Wales, has a unique take on ``difficult'' or neurotic musicians like Mahler and Bruckner, and a highly individual and idiosyncratic way of bringing his subjects to the screen, but his interests are relatively specialised as the titles of his films such as Women In Love, The Music Lovers,Lady Chatterly,The Devils and Valentino may suggest to more mature readers.

One of his most talked-about scenes to the music of Tchaikovsky in The Music Lovers involved one time Transport Minister Glenda Jackson apparently having a fit in a railway carriage -presumably as a result of waiting for hours for the train to arrive, overheating,or sampling a British Rail sandwich.

We do not expect to see such extravagant behaviour from RS Thomas but with Ken Russell one can never be quite sure.

One thing is certain, thefilm,if made, will put Gwynedd on the map in a way we had never previously envisaged.
