Dad's Channel challenge.

A NEWCASTLE dad is set to swim the English Channel to raise funds for children's cancer charity.

Philip Pugh, a business communications specialist, will take on the challenge for research charity Kidscan with sons Alex, 20, and Roderick, 22, on June 23.

Pals Philippa Higgs and Matt Naylor will also swim in relay overseen by a pilot boat.

The challenge could last anything up to one week, governed by the weather and the strength of currents.

The group has already received strong support from Vertem Asset Management, The Mill-field Group and BNS distribution who have all chosen to sponsor the effort.

Mr Pugh said: "It will be a strong family effort, and we are all delighted by the support that we have already received.

"We feel incredibly strongly about the work that Kidscan do to save the lives of children, and are glad that so many people want to help us raise money.
