THE DARK (15) Starring: Sean Bean, Maria Bello, Abigail Stone.

HIGH-STRUNG mother Adelle Tullian (Bello) travels from New York to a remote area of Wales with her teenage daughter Sarah to stay with her husband, James (Bean), in a wind-beaten farmhouse close to the sea.

Adelle hopes the relocation will bring her family closer together and strengthen the bond with James.

The area is steeped in superstition and Celtic mythology. James pays little notice to the legends but Adelle senses the air of foreboding, which seems to come true when Sarah drowns. The girl's body never surfaces and her mother clings on to the faint belief that she might return, safe and well.

Instead, James and Adelle come face-to-face with the enigmatic Ebrill, a girl looking not too dissimilar from Sarah, who claims to be one of the victims of a mass suicide 50 years earlier. Are the Tullians going mad or have they inadvertently stumbled upon the town's secret dark history - a legacy of death and misery, which has poisoned the land? *****
