THE HOLE (12) holds witty lines and genuine scares without gore for youngsters, as brothers Chris Massoglia and Nathan Gamble move into a new house to find a bottomless hole in their basement, covered with a locked trapdoor. Weird and scary things come out of it.

THE SWITCH (12) stars Jennifer Aniston (pictured) as a single girl who uses a donor's sperm to get pregnant. Best friend Jason Bateman drunkenly swaps the sample with his own, then realises he's the dad when he meets her adorable son. Young Thomas Robinson steals this funny romcom.

DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS (12 boasts a good cast but a painfully unfunny script. Paul Rudd has to take an idiot to one of his boss's infamous dinner parties so the other guests can laugh at him. He finds the ideal candidate in taxidermist Steve Carell, who starts taking over his life. David Walliams and Chris O'Dowd fail to improve it.

GROWN UPS (12) has Adam Sandler employing his mates like Rob Schneider, and having far more fun making this 'comedy', about old friends reuniting at a funeral, than we have watching it.

CERTIFIED COPY (12) stars Juliette Binoche in a slowgoing French drama.
