DURACELL USA TO SPONSOR INDYCAR RACING TEAM FOR '93 SEASON

INDIANAPOLIS, March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Duracell USA, the maker of Duracell brand Alkaline batteries, announced today that it has signed an agreement with Dick Simon Racing and race car driver Raul Boesel, to campaign an entry in all 1993 PPG IndyCar World Series events.
The announcement marks a return to IndyCar racing for Duracell USA which had sponsored Boesel and the Simon racing team for the 1986 season.
"IndyCar racing offers Duracell a high degree of visibility with consumers, more opportunities for key trade-customer presence at races, and the potential to build our business franchise with major accounts," said Duracell USA Vice President of Marketing Bob Giacolone. "We have had a very positive experience over the past three years with the sponsorship of a Trans-Am racing team and we expect an even better response to the Indy program."
Boesel's other sponsors include Mobil Oil International, and Sadia, the largest meat processing company in Latin America, headquartered in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
"I'm very excited about our prospects for the season," said Boesel. "With the addition of the Duracell sponsorship, along with Sadia and the Ford Cosworth engine, we have the elements in place to run competitively all season."
Boesel and Simon Racing were reunited in 1992 at the Indianapolis 500. Although he did not compete in the first three races, Boesel finished ninth in the 1992 championship points standings. His best finishes included second place at the Detroit Grand Prix and third at the Michigan 500.
Boesel won the World Sports Car Driving Championship in 1987 and placed third at the Indianapolis 500 in 1989. Born in Curitiba, Brazil, he now lives in Miami.
The Dick Simon Racing Team moved about one year ago to a new, state-of-the-art race shop in Indianapolis, where it has performed extensive research and development in preparation for the 1993 season. The team will combine the Ford Cosworth powerplant with 1993 Lola chassis.
