DUNGAN APPOINTED AAA VICE PRESIDENT OF STRATEGIC PLANNING & RESEARCH
 ORLANDO, Fla., May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Travis P. Dungan, administrator of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Research and Special Programs Administration, has been named vice president of Strategic Planning and Research for the 33-million-member American Automobile Association.
 Dungan assumes the newly created position June 8. He will report to AAA President Paul R. Verkuil.
 The new vice president will have responsibility for AAA's corporate strategic planning and research programs. These programs assure the best use of AAA resources in line with the association's objectives for competitiveness, growth, customer service and financial strength.
 "Travis Dungan's considerable accomplishments in both the public and private sectors make him an ideal choice to help AAA map a course for continued growth and success," Verkuil said.
 Appointed to the U.S. DOT position in 1989, Dungan managed the department's $200 million budget for transportation research, safety and training.
 He was a deputy undersecretary for economic affairs, U.S. Commerce Department; deputy secretary of commerce, state of Florida; vice president and treasurer, Overseas Private Investment Corp., Washington, D.C.; deputy assistant secretary for finance, U.S. Department of Commerce; senior management consultant, Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co., Miami; subcontractor president, Carter Construction Co., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and assistant vice president, Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., San Francisco.
 Dungan holds a bachelor of arts degree from Harvard University and a MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
