DULUTH CLINIC TO MERGE WITH SUPERIOR CLINIC; NORTHERN MINNESOTA'S TOP GROUP PROVIDER BEHIND ONLY MAYO, PARK-NICOLLET, RAMSEY IN STATE

DULUTH, Minn., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- An agreed merger of The Duluth Clinic with Superior Clinic, effective Oct. 1, 1993, will enhance the geographic reach, purchasing efficiencies, and health care delivery for the 14 clinic multi-specialty group.
After the merger, physicians from Duluth Clinic, complete with 39 specialties and subspecialties, can serve patients on-site at Superior Clinic. The Wisconsin clinic will also have access to all Duluth Clinic purchasing contracts, serving to help limit future health care cost increases.
"We're going to be involved with a very prestigious group," stated Bob Larson, administrator at Superior Clinic.
"As we work collaboratively to build an integrated delivery system for the region, Twin Ports patients will benefit," stated Duluth Clinic President Philip L. Eckman, M.D., who describes the merger as leading the way towards collaboration consistent with health care reform. "We are pleased to bring together two organizations with a similar commitment to high quality health care."
With 200 physicians, The Duluth Clinic is Minnesota's fourth largest multi-specialty group. It currently has 13 clinics, located in northern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin, and serves numerous patients from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Canada. Superior Clinic is staffed by four family practice physicians, two internists, one general surgeon and one urologist.
