DUKE POWER OFFERS LOW FINANCING FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY

CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Duke Power Co. (NYSE: DUK) is offering customers an opportunity to make their homes more comfortable and affordable.
For a limited time, the company will offer 6 percent loans to qualified customers who purchase a Comfort Machine with a seasonal energy efficiency ratio of 11 or greater.
The Comfort Machine is Duke Power's name for a high efficiency heat pump, designed to provide clean, comfortable, safe heating and cooling year-round.
To apply for Duke Power's special loan rate, customers should call 1-800-786-3853. Customers' credit must be approved and installation of the Comfort Machine must be completed by an Authorized Comfort Machine Dealer before Nov. 15, 1993.
"Although we do not sell Comfort Machines, Duke Power recommends them because they significantly increase home energy efficiency and maximize comfort -- winter and summer," said Dave Wadsworth, Duke Power heating and air conditioning program manager. "Comfort Machines can save customers thousands of energy dollars over the years, and with this special interest rate, heat pumps are more affordable than ever."
This summer, customers can apply for up to $5,000 for one new Comfort Machine, or $7,500 for two systems. Duke Power also offers the convenience of financing up to five years, no down payment and convenient payments options.
To help customers determine whether the Comfort Machine is the best heating and cooling alternative for their homes, Duke Power offers free home energy audits by professional Energy Specialists. These specialists are trained to help homeowners increase home energy efficiency and minimize energy consumption.
"By becoming more energy conscious and making wise energy decisions, customers will increase their home comfort, save money on their monthly energy bill and help protect the environment," said Wadsworth.
Duke Power also offers 6 percent loans for increasing home insulation.
